Transportation affects nearly every part of daily life in Garden City. From freight movement and industrial activity to sidewalks, bus stops, school connections, and neighborhood mobility, transportation shapes how residents, workers, visitors, and businesses experience the community.

The Transportation Division works to identify local needs, improve connectivity, pursue funding opportunities, and advocate for projects that support economic activity and quality of life.

Local Transportation Priorities

Garden City is working to translate long-standing transportation needs into clearly defined local projects and funding priorities. Areas of focus include closing sidewalk gaps, improving pedestrian safety, exploring trail and pathway connections, strengthening access to transit, supporting safer routes to schools and community destinations, enhancing key corridors, and identifying roadway improvements that better serve residents, businesses, and freight movement.

These efforts will build upon existing regional plans and studies while establishing a stronger City-led transportation agenda for Garden City.

Regional Transportation Coordination

Garden City participates in the Coastal Region Metropolitan Planning Organization, commonly known as CORE MPO. The organization coordinates long-range transportation planning, regional studies, project prioritization, and access to certain federal transportation funding programs.

Through this partnership, the City works to ensure Garden City’s needs are represented in regional plans, studies, funding decisions, and project priorities. This coordination also connects local initiatives with agencies and partners responsible for roadways, transit, freight movement, and bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure.
