Housing plays an important role in the long-term success of Garden City. The Housing & Community Development division focuses on neighborhood stability, reinvestment, housing choice, and community-based initiatives that support residents at every stage of life.

Current areas of focus include housing reinvestment, neighborhood improvement, workforce housing opportunities, aging housing stock, homeownership support, and community partnerships that strengthen Garden City's neighborhoods.

Current Initiative: Garden City Community Housing Committee

In August 2026, the City of Garden City established the Garden City Community Housing Committee to participate in the Georgia Initiative for Community Housing (GICH). The committee will meet monthly to develop, review, and recommend a localized housing plan for consideration by the Mayor and Council. Committee members will also participate in required GICH training and educational programs, identify local housing needs and challenges, and help develop strategies related to neighborhood revitalization, blight elimination, affordable housing, zoning, public engagement, and homeownership assistance.

The committee will also recommend potential funding opportunities and resources, including CHIP, CDBG, OneGeorgia Authority programs, and Housing Tax Credits, to support future housing initiatives.
